International Women’s Day Celebration

A REPORT ON THE RADIO TALK IN COMMEMORATION OF THE 33RD EDITION OF THE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY CELEBRATIONS IN LIMBE, CAMEROON

The Pan African Center for Climate Policy (PACC Policy) and its collaborative partner in Cameroon, Forests Resources and People (FOREP) with support from the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, and Eternity Gospel Radio (96.5MHz), in Limbe Cameroon commemorated the 2018 International Women’s Day. The radio talk was hosted by Ms Ewi Stephanie Lamma; research fellow with PACC Policy in the domain of Sustainable Natural Resource Management. The panel consisted of the Chief of Service for Orientation and Counseling (Madame Achale Florence) at the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, and Madam Stella Asaha, the Coordinator of a local NGO, Forests, Resources and People (FOREP), Limbe, Cameroon.

They discussed the theme of the talk “Shaping Women’s Role in Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation”, which was shaped from the theme for the International Women’s Day Celebrations: “Intensify the Fight Against Discrimination on Women, Strengthen Partnership to Speed Up Sustainable Development “. The first speaker spoke on the impacts women have in our societies and what the society expects of them. Madam Asaha, the second speaker explained some local impacts of Climate Change within Limbe, discussed local practices the Cameroon woman can use to combat Climate Change. She also emphasized the integration of local women in Climate Change policies and programs in order to ensure sustainable development and why not inculcate Climate Change education in early girl education?

The talk which began at 11:00 am CAT on the 7th of March 2018 lasted one hour and ended with a call from Madam Achale of the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and the Family, to women, to celebrate with a vision for the future. Madam Stella Asaha concluded with a beckoning to government, UN bodies, donors and civil societies to take actions to better incorporate women’s empowerment into policies and programs through financing projects in this light.
